Teeny Pembroke Vest

is done! I really love the finished project and didn't have any trouble with the pattern but as some knitters on Ravelry have mentioned it wasn't really "intuitive" either. I love that it's a fun and well designed project for a boy and I love the two buttons on one shoulder to help get it over big baby heads!

Here it is:

The Dream in Color Classy was the called for yarn and it worked really well with enough left over (at the smallest size) for a matching hat.

Hopefully soon I'll have a modeled shot on a wee starfish! ;)

Ravelympics

Well, they've started. I haven't started but the Ravelympics have started. I joined Team Purl Scouts and entered the WIP Dancing event in an effort to finish up my Lizard Ridge.

Sounds like so much fun and I do really love my Lizard Ridge and want to get her done! So what's the problem? I sat there in front of the Opening Ceremonies and continued knitting the baby's Pembroke Vest. It's like I immediately have mental block about being told I HAVE to knit something specific on a timeline. But no one told me I had to do this. I signed up willingly! What is my problem? Anyone else out there participating? Motivate me!

Cables, cables everywhere

On Baby Starfish's Pembroke Vest that is! I'm loving it so far. I'm following the pattern for the 6 month size but it may come out a bit smaller than that which is fine with me.

I've also been spinning. This is superwash BFL (my favorite fiber to spin) in the Roses For You colorway by Susan's Spinning Bunny. This bobbin is half of the singles for a two-ply yarn.

I have the day off (against my will) today due to snow so hopefully I'll make progress on both projects!

I'm Dreaming in Color!

I hadn't tried any Dream in Color yarn before and now that I have, I'm in love! First up are my No-Purl Monkeys in Starry. The colorway is Happy Forest:

A great green color with a hint of silver sparkle!

Then I bought some Classy in the Deep Seaflower colorway:

This skein will become a Pembroke Vest (mentioned in the last post) for Baby Starfish due in March!

First Sock Club Shipment

I finally succumbed to the pull of the sock club. I've been looking into them for a while and decided on the GothSock Club by Rainy Days and Wooly Dogs. Stephanie's yarns are so beautiful and I'm a sucker for self-striping! The first shipment arrived today and I'm in love.

It's self-striping in pinks and blueish lavender. The base is superwash merino, nylon and cashmere. Yum!

On another note, is anyone planning a project for the Ravelympics? I'm thinking I'm going to enter the WIP category and FINALLY push through the end of my Lizard Ridge Afghan. I started it in March of 2008. *embarassed*

More Monkeys

I've knit Monkeys before but they were for someone else. I really like the pattern but am trying the No Purl Monkeys this time around. I'm using Dream In Color Starry yarn:

The colorway is Happy Forest and I really love the subtle changes in green with the flecks of silver.

I'm about halfway through with the gusset on the first sock:

I love this color so much that I'm thinking about using it to make a Pembroke vest out of it for the wee one on the way. I love how that center cable splits for the V up the neck.

In non-knitting news, I found a great Snickerdoodle recipe by Martha Stewart. Snickerdoodles aren't my favorite cookie but I had all of the ingredients on hand for these so I thought I'd try them out. Yum! Half of the batch will go over to my friend Ellen, who celebrates a birthday today.

I'm going to try this out!

Well, obvuously, I haven't posted in along time. There are many reasons for this but I won't go into much of it. One big reason is I was having a MAJOR spam problem. I shut down my comments for about a month and am going to open it back up now and see how it goes.

There has been some knitting! I started and finished Boheme for a very sweet new baby girl named Harper. I love it when talented knitters share their patterns with the public because they certainly don't have to! This is super cute over a long-sleeved onesie with jeans or short sleeves if it's warmer.

I made the mod of a garter edge on either side of the sweater to prevent rolling and garter at the bottom (the pattern calls for a picot edge). If I were to make this again, I would put the buttons closer to the edge of the sweater. I found very cute hippo buttons for this project that upped the cute factor!

This was a great less-than-one-skein project. I used some Dream in Color Classy that I had sitting in my stash - perfect!

With two hours to spare

Friday Foto is almost over for the week but I'm getting mine in! We're still on beach time so my blogging is a little slack!

This sweet little nest is in a tree right outside our back door. The mommy cardinal sits on the nest until I come out to check on my garden but she's never far away. This is the best picture I could get without disturbing her too much. There are three eggs in the nest. Counting the days until we have babies!

edited to add: Okay, now I'm thoroughly confused. Mr Starfish and I see the female cardinal sitting in the nest, the male cardinal lingering around and the blue eggs. A quick Google search shows that cardinal eggs are white with brown speckles. What gives? Any birders out there?

When was the National Championship game?

Oh, right. Early April. That's when I cast on for the "National Championship socks". I finished them last night.

I really like them. The pattern is Duckies and the yarn is Three Irish Girls in the Cormac colorway. They are comfy and I followed the pattern exactly as written. The yarn is a light sport weight and I think my next socks for me will be a true fingerweight. These are a tad thick.

Mr. Starfish calls them the Irish Spring socks. The color kind of looks like the soap, doesn't it?

A great week for fluffy mail!

Oh my goodness. I can't believe my good luck this week. First of all, I have been searching and stalking like a crazy woman for some Wollmeise sock yarn. It has been near impossible to get for some time now and after not trying for awhile I thought maybe the craziness had died down. I was wrong. People in the US were setting alarms at 3am to wait in the off chance it was stocked.

Finally I sent out a plea on Ravelry and wouldn't you know that people who did not want to trade/sell their Wollmeise PMed me saying that they would for me since I'd never tried any! So nice. Two skeins arrived this week (from two different Ravelers).

The first is Indisch Rot on the 100% wool base. Beautiful shades of red and orangey red:

The next is Thriller on 80/20 Wild Thing:

Even Mr. Starfish who is unimpressed by most yarn and thinks "stalking" websites for yarn is crazy, has commented twice on the colors in this one!

Then (as if this wasn't enough) my last installment of the Dashing Dachs fiber club came today and what a way to end. One of my favorite DD colorways -Goldfish on merino:
