Paper Starfish

My first "proper" quilt. Yes, there are mistakes and problems. No, I don't want you to point them out (I know they're there!). I am in love with it. I'm gifting it to my four month old niece because it's not quite big enough for an adult lap quilt.

I've joined 52Photos over on Monika's blog. She and a friend are posting a prompt or theme each week and we will post a photo fitting that theme every Thursday. Last week we were supposed to take a photo at 8:11pm (20:11) on Thursday.

Look at my Baby Starfish. Last Thursday at 8:11 he should have been fast asleep. I was thinking about reading and taking a picture of my new Kindle (which I L-O-V-E), or watching junk tv and taking a picture of my hubs in bed next to me on his laptop. What is that saying about the best laid plans of mice and men? Baby Starfish just wasn't feeling bedtime so he ended up on our bed with us. Of course, I loved it and didn't mind at all taking a picture of him instead.

This week's theme was independence. I took this picture of Kid Starfish at Cold Stone Creamery today. It represents independence in two ways. 1: We've been out of school on snow days (I'm a teacher and Kid Starfish attends kindergarten at the same school) ALL WEEK. We've had the independence to decide what we want to do every day, all day. Today we chose eating ice cream at 4:00 in the afternoon. In pajamas. 2: We left the baby behind on this outing and Kid Starfish had independence like he did before baby brother came along. Not having to be quiet for napping or wait his turn for my attention. All in all, a great afternoon.

Knitting and quilting update tomorrow. Promise. It's been very hard to get pictures in natural light lately!

I've gotten all but two of my wonky log cabins back from bee members. I don't really have much hope of getting the other two since my month was October. I had planned to add some more blocks in anyway so it's all good. Click for biggie if you want to see better:

I'm planning to have four strips like this and the placement of the solid block will vary in each strip. Here's a closer shot of two blocks:

The sashing is Kona Coal which I love. I think it's going to give the eye a good place to rest.

Is there any point to posting progress pictures of lace? It looks like a blob until it's blocked. For those that know the pattern, I just finished chart A.

I'm a little late posting this week's photo. Life got crazy.

Evening is bath time. The baby likes to watch his brother in the tub and I can tell he's ready to jump in himself. I wonder how much longer he'll tolerate his tubbies in the kitchen sink?

We have a possum visiting our yard during the day and it was starting to make me nervous. Kid Starfish and I tried to walk out the front door today and he just stood there and stared at us. I went back in to get my camera and when we came back out, he was gone. We were "possum hunting" when I took this picture of me and the Kid. I love that he's looking up at me instead of at our shadows!
